Reports in the Daily Express explain the former Barcelona youngster is currently on loan at German outfit Stuttgart after penning a new deal with the Stamford Bridge side, but remains frustrated at his lack of chances with his parent club.

Romeu has played 22 league games for the Blues, but has not appeared since the 2012-13 season, having spent the entirety of the last campaign on loan at Valencia, where he managed just 18 appearances.

The source adds that Mourinho is reportedly planning to include Romeu in his plans for the first-team squad next season, and the 23-year-old is hoping that he is given a platform to showcase his talents in west London.

He said: “My main objective is to improve my game and I think I can still improve a lot. The Bundesliga is a good league to grow and to become a better player.

“We’ll see what happens, but now I’m focused on the present and helping the team. I don’t know what will happen in the next few years but I will never say no to staying in Stuttgart because they have treated me amazingly so far and I’m really happy here.”
