New York Red Bulls and Orlando City linked with former England left back.

Former Chelsea left back Ashley Cole could leave Serie A club AS Roma as soon as January, report the Mail, with Rudi Garcia’s coaching staff at the Stadio Olimpico seemingly far from convinced by the experienced former England left back.

Cole signed for Roma this season accompanied by much fanfare in the Italian capital, but he is yet to really establish himself as clear first choice under Garcia and the club could be willing to cut their losses on Cole in the January transfer window if it is a deal that can suit all parties.

Cole did attract the mirth of some MLS fans in the summer when he said that he wasn’t willing to “retire to a beach in the US”, but it is reported that the MLS is the most likely destination for Cole if he does leave Italy, with both New York Red Bulls and Orlando City interested in acquiring his services for the new season.

New York have been one of the MLS’ most consistent and impressive sides in recent years, with marquee striker Thierry Henry banging in the goals with some regularity, whilst Orlando are set to enter the league for the first time next season, having announced Brazilian superstar Kaka as their first big arrival.
