Sociedad dumped Jagoba Arrasate after defeat to Malaga.

Former Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes could be set to make a surprise return to football management in La Liga, report the Mirror, with the Scot on the list of candidates to replace Jagoba Arrasate at Real Sociedad after a 1-0 defeat to Malaga this weekend spelled the end for the Basque club’s coach.

Moyes was sacked by United at the back end of last season after failing to do the job sufficiently as replacement to legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and has been out of the profession since, although links to the likes of Inter Milan and Napoli recently have indicated that Moyes is ready to return to the fold.

Sociedad, meanwhile, have failed to capitalise on finishing sixth in La Liga last season, finding themselves in the relegation zone after losing to Malaga this weekend and also having crashed out of the Europa League in the play-off round after defeat to Russia outfit Kuban Krasnodar.

The Basque side’s squad has too much quality to be languishing at the wrong end of La Liga and the job at the San Sebastian one is an attractive one, but Moyes faces competition from former Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella and former West Brom coach Pepe Mel for the position.
