With Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert still yet to register a Premier League goal at Liverpool and Daniel Sturridge struggling with injury problems, Origi is seen as a potential answer as he continues to impress in the French top flight.

But Girard gave a radio interview on Sunday night where he praised the 19-year-old forward and denied that he would be making a premature return to Anfield.

“It’s just a rumour. There is not truth to my knowledge. It was agreed that Divock would stay the year with us. There is no reason he would leave midway through the championship,” he said.

“They have failed to score at Liverpool? Us too. We need him a lot”.

Asked if Balotelli could switch paths with Origi in January, Girard answered “The question was never asked”.
