The Brazilian born Spanish international has been struggling with an ongoing hamstring injury for a while now, as well as a viral infection that kept him on the bench against Maribor during the Blues’ 1-1 draw in the Champions League.

Costa has recovered enough to be in contention for a start according to his Portuguese boss, who revealed on Friday that, “as a consequence of the work we have been doing, we think he is ready to start the match.”

The former Atletico Madrid man is currently the club’s top scorer and with Loic Remy still injured Mourinho will be glad to have the 26-year-old back for their crunch Premier League clash against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Costa has been left out of the Spain squad ahead of their upcoming international matches, something many assumed was due to his lack of fitness. It seems however, that it is merely a tactical choice by national boss Vicente del Bosque.
