The midfielder went down after being caught heavily by Paddy McNair during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, and it seems unlikely the injury-troubled star will see first-team action until at least 2015.

“I can’t give you any timescale there. He’ll be out for a while. He has to see a specialist next week to see how long,” manager Arsene Wenger said.

Wojciech Szczesny and Theo Walcott will both miss out on the visit of Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, but Wenger was handed some good news as defender Laurent Koscielny is likely to return for the Champions League clash after he made his return to raining.
