Simeone says that Godin will be going nowhere.

Manchester United may have to look beyond Atletico Madrid star Diego Godin in their January search for top class reinforcements at the heart of defence, report the Mail, after any reports linking the Uruguayan with a move away from the Vicente Calderon rubbished by Atletico boss Diego Simeone.

United had been linked with a £15.7 million move for Godin, but Atletico seem unlikely to part with one of their crucial players unless his £28 million release clause is met, and even then it is unclear whether one of Atletico’s leaders would be interested in moving on from the La Liga champions.

Simeone, in particular, replied scornfully when asked about the rumours linking his man with a move to Old Trafford, with the Argentine effectively laughing off the suggestion and quickly moving the conversation on to other matters:

“Let’s talk about something else. How much? Twenty (million euros)? For Godin? It must be a mistake.”

Godin scored crucial goals on the final day of the La Liga season and in the Champions League final for Atletico during their astonishing 2013/14 campaign and is one of the stars around which Simeone has built his Atletico team, so it is no surprise that the idea of him leaving the club is one that he isn’t willing to entertain.
