City lining up shock move for Papiss Cisse.

The ongoing injury concerns over all three of the club’s senior strikers, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, appear to have persuaded Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini to enter back into the transfer market, with the Daily Star linking the Premier League champions with a £20 million move for in form Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse.

Senegalese international Cisse himself spent the first few weeks of the sidelines injured, but he returned to the first team with a bang and a brace and was also on target last weekend as Alan Pardew’s impressive Magpies ended Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 triumph at St. James’ Park.

This impressive form has alerted Pellegrini and his City superiors to the possibility of bringing Cisse to St. James’ Park, with top scorer and star man Sergio Aguero set to endure eight weeks on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury.

City would have to pay through the nose to persuade Newcastle to sell their only senior out-and-out centre forward, however, and a bid of much more than the £12m that the Magpies paid to Bundesliga outfit Freiburg to secure Cisse’s services is likely to be necessary – £20m according to the report quoted.
