Sterling scored twice in Liverpool’s last home match against the Gunners in February – a game in which Rodgers’ team ended up beating Wenger’s side 5-1.

And with the two Premier League giants set to meet again this weekend, Wenger opened up on his admiration for the London born star.

“I rate him highly,” he said.

“Everybody spoke about [Luis] Suarez last year but [Daniel] Sturridge and Sterling were very influential.”

Wenger will be hoping a positive result against the Reds will elevate them a little closer to the top four, as they have struggled to get out of second gear so far this term.

Liverpool meanwhile, have struggled to come anywhere near the scintillating form they displayed last term and are currently languishing in 11th.
