Gareth Bale set to extend Real stay until 2021.

Real Madrid winger and the world’s most expensive footballer, Gareth Bale, is set to reject the overtures of Manchester United in favour of extending his contract with the reigning European champions until 2021, according to reports from the Daily Star.

Bale has been heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League and to Old Trafford during the course of this season, despite his generally impressive performances in the Spanish capital, but the Welsh international has moved recently to distance himself from speculation and reiterate how much he is enjoying his spell in Madrid:

“Go to Manchester United? I am very happy in Madrid, a city, a climate and a club that I love.”

The Star report has now suggested that Bale could now sign a contract extension with Real Madrid, ending any speculation suggesting that the world’s most expensive footballer could be tempted back to England, a suggestion backed up by comments from the former Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton man himself:

“My contract ends in 2019 and I could sign a renewal. I am very happy at Madrid and I hope to win many more titles in the future.”

Bale has suffered from the odd injury problem at Real Madrid this season, whilst the summer signing of James Rodriguez from AS Monaco has put more pressure on his position in Carlo Ancelotti’s first team, but Bale still seems to be undisputed first choice at the Bernabeu when fit.
