Roma could return for experienced stopper Petr Cech.

Premier League leaders Chelsea could face a nervous January as they look to ensure that they are able to hold on to experienced Czech Republic international goalkeeper Petr Cech, with the Express reporting that Serie A title contenders AS Roma will return for Cech if they are unable to push through a deal to sign Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto.

Roma manager Rudi Garcia is in desperate need of a new goalkeeper at the Stadio Olimpico after first choice Morgan de Sanctis endured a frustrating campaign so far, particularly with some notable errors in the Champions League, and Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto seems to be the most logical option.

La Viola are desperate to keep hold of the Brazilian, however, meaning that Roma may not be able to prise him away from their rivals and, in the process, they may well be forced to turn their attentions back on Cech, who Jose Mourinho wants to keep at Stamford Bridge at least until the end of the season.

With veteran Australian Mark Schwarzer set to join Leicester City as cover for the injured Kasper Schmeichel, Cech will become the only senior cover for first choice Thibaut Courtois, a situation that the Blues will want to see maintained at least until the summer.
