As a report in Sporza shows, Robben dominated the poll with a whopping 46.7% of the votes, whilst the inclusion of de Bruyne in second with 12.5% is something of a surprise.

Both former Chelsea stars have been in fine form for their respective clubs in recent times, although there are probably a few more candidates that spring to mind ahead of the Belgium international.

For instance at Bayern the likes of Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger will perhaps feel hard done by, whilst despite their poor form as a team Borussia Dortmund duo Mats Hummels and Marco Reus are regarded among the best in the world.

However, with six goals and 12 assists in 25 appearances in all competitions so far this season it’s easy to see why de Bruyne has been voted where he is as the attacking midfielder continues to rebuild his career after his Stamford Bridge frustration.

Meanwhile Robben has an outstanding 12 goals and four assists in 18 games as Pep Guardiola’s men once again to dominate in the German top tier.
