The 24 year old has been in superb form over the past 18 months and is believed to be valued at as much as £50m by his Premier League employers, comfortably higher than the current record paid for custodian, the £33m paid by Juventus for Gianluigi Buffon.

Though Louis van Gaal would be loathed to lose the former Atletico Madrid man the Dutchman has of course secured the services of former Barcelona star Victor Valdes, and as such could perhaps entertain the notion of losing De Gea is a truly astronomical offer was made.

This source quotes a Bernabeu insider as stating “De Gea will be at Real Madrid next season.”

Real Madrid have of course previously landed Man United’s top talents, as evidenced by Cristiano Ronaldo’s £80m move to the Spanish capital in 2009, and Carlo Ancelotti may see de Gea as an ideal long term replacement for Iker Casillas.

David de Gea initially struggled to impress when he first arrived at Man United but has matured into one of the best keepers in Europe and could be tempted by a return to his hometown.
