The 21-year-old has burst on to the scene this season. He has already scored over 20 goals in all competitions, including 13 in the Premier League. He has even netted 11 times in his last 10 games.

The former Tottenham player thinks that the Reds star needs time to get over being on the sidelines for such a long period of time. The 42-year-old had a career beset by fitness problems, so should know what it is like trying to return after a long term injury.

Asked who England should pick on Sky Sports, he said, “I love Sturridge as a player, but I have been there and know what it is like coming back from an injury. He will be worried about breaking down at the moment. For me, it has to be Kane.”

Despite Kane scoring, Sturridge was on the winning side when the two met on Tuesday night. This means that the Merseyside club have taken another step towards getting back in to the top four.
