The Argentine international has long been linked with Premier League clubs after initially impressing at Porto and then continuing his fine form in La Liga with Valencia.
United are stepping up their efforts to win the race for his signature, with Louis van Gaal keen to land improvements to his back four this summer.
Other big names have also been linked with the Red Devils, but United seem to have set their sights on Otamendi as their best option due to his very reasonable buy-out clause.
