Hull City 2-3 Chelsea: Blues boss Jose Mourinho glosses over defensive deficiencies and praises his team following narrow win

Posted by

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho praised his side for their footballing qualities after the league leaders beat Hull City to reopen a six point gap over second place Manchester City.

After taking a 2-0 lead inside eight minutes, Hull City clawed back to level the game and nearly went on to win it, but couldn’t find a way past a sensational Thibaut Courtois.

As a perfectionist, one would expect that Mourinho would’ve been quick to voice his disappointment with how his team defended, but the Portuguese coach wanted to focus on his team’s effectiveness in the opposition half.

“The victory is very, very important obviously, we go back to three points after a draw at home last week,” Mourinho said (via Sky Sports).

“The performance was very, very good until 2-0. We lost a bit of quality after their two goals, but in the second-half from minute one, we recovered a good level of football. We deserved the three points.”

Being the psychological expert he is, Mourinho clearly doesn’t want to complicate matters with any negative assessment of his own side, and accepts that they may have to grind out their victories on the way to a first league title since 2010.
