Arsenal’s January signing Gabriel told the club’s official website that the strength of the Premier League convinced him to join the Gunners from La Liga side Villarreal, via Arsenal.com.

After starting the season with just two central defenders, Arsene Wenger finally decided add to his defensive department and brought in Gabriel for a fee believed to be £11.2m (via BBC Sport).

Wenger had been worried about integrating Gabriel immediately, but the Brazilian has since been given some minutes and looks like potentially forming a mobile partnership with Laurent Koscielny.

“Every player knows his quality, we have top-quality training facilities and an excellent team,” Gabriel said.

“If you look at our individual qualities we make a great team. That’s why we are playing well especially now in the last weeks of the season.

“[The strength of the league is] one of the reasons why I wanted to play here. It’s a tight competition with no weak teams. Clubs at the bottom of the table compete at the same level with the leaders.”

Arsenal are the in-form team in the country at the moment and Gabriel will certainly hoping to claim his first piece of silverware in England as the Gunners look to retain the FA Cup.
