Arsenal set to make shock summer offer for Premier League keeper

Arsenal are planning on making an offer for Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, son of Manchester United legend Peter, in the summer transfer window.

With David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny perhaps not the quality desired by boss Arsene Wenger, the Frenchman is in the market for a potential new no.1 at the Emirates.

Schmeichel has been in fine form in recent weeks; helping to lift Leicester out of the relegation zone, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Danish sports reporter Michael Qureshi wrote on Twitter that the Gunners have enquired about the availability of the stopper at the end of the season, but the Foxes’ focus at present is on Premier League survival, and therefore won’t entertain any offers from Arsenal until the campaign finishes.

The 28-year-old has failed to emulate the stunning success of his father – who won 15 trophies, including five Premier League titles, during his eight years at Old Trafford – but could still be set for a move to a top four team in the EPL.

The Gunners, however, will have to fend off interest from Liverpool, according to the Express.

Arsenal have been heavily linked to Chelsea stopper Petr Cech [via the Mirror] throughout the campaign, but the rumours suggest that Wenger may have conceded that old foe Jose Mourinho won’t allow the Czech Republic international to join their Premier League rivals in the summer.
