Last season’s Premier League champions are desperate to improve their squad after a frustrating season which saw them surrender their title to Chelsea, as well as miss out on silverware altogether after poor showings in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Sterling now seems a priority target for City, who could do with more variety in attack after unconvincing performances from the likes of Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas out wide.

The Reds contract rebel wants out of Anfield after becoming regarded as one of the hottest young talents in Europe, and according to the Daily Mail, he could be set for a move to Liverpool’s Premier League rivals.

This will no doubt be a big blow for the club, with manager Brendan Rodgers insisting he doesn’t plan to sell the 20-year-old.
