According to latest reports, the Reds are now in pole position to complete the signing of Porto striker Jackson Martinez in a bid to boost their attack, which has been a big problem for the club this season.

Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be keen to add a world class striker to his squad after losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer, with replacements Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert so far not doing enough to provide the goods up front.

Martinez had been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, but it is now claimed in the Metro that the move has fallen through and Liverpool are the new favourites to sign the prolific Colombian international, who has scored 32 goals in 41 games this season.
