The pair have both got more than one year left on their current deals, but it seems manager Jose Mourinho believes that they have earned extensions after the successful campaign they have enjoyed.

Ramires has two years left on a contract he signed back in 2012, but with the Daily Telegraph linking him with a move to Serie A champions Juventus this could be an effort to scare the Old Lady off. The 28-year-old was a key part of their Premier League and Capital One Cup winning squad last season, playing 34 times in all competitions.

Meanwhile Ake still has three years left on a deal signed in 2013, but with the 20-year-old improving they may want to preemptively raise his wages. The midfielder only made five first team appearances last time round, as well as five games on loan at Reading. He has been linked with another temporary departure by the Telegraph, this time to Middlesbrough, this summer and a new deal could be an insurance policy against him drawing interest while at the Riverside Stadium.

The fact that these two central midfielders are signing new contracts could mean that a deal for Juventus star Paul Pogba is off the cards. The Daily Mirror had reported that a swap deal involving Oscar was possible, but if these two are being tied down to new deals it could mean that Mourinho isn’t expecting any new additions in that part of the pitch.
