The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu throughout the summer, but recently confirmed that he would be returning to Carrington for pre-season training [Daily Mirror]. This may have given manager Louis van Gaal some hope that he can still persuade the Spain international to stay at Old Trafford.

With only one year left on his contract with the Red Devils, it could be that Los Merengues were expecting to get the goalkeeper for a cut-price fee. However, United are demanding £35 million for the player according to the Daily Express. If they were able to tie the stopper down to a new deal it would likely mean that any departure from the club was off the cards.

There is an issue for the Premier League giants though, as De Gea is going to make it clear that he isn’t interested in extending his stay with them regardless of the offer to Louis van Gaal [MARCA]. Back in May, The Sun revealed that they were ready to offer the player £250,000 a week to reject Los Blancos, but even this doesn’t seem to be enough to entice the ‘keeper to stay.

Should United lose the goalie then they could push through a move for Stoke City ace Asmir Begovic [Daily Telegraph], or Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris [Metro] to replace the Spaniard.
