Manchester United transfer news: Real Madrid target set for medical ahead of move

Goalkeeper transfer looks imminent.

Manchester United look like closing in on the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero this summer, with the free agent and Real Madrid target set to have a medical ahead of his move to Old Trafford, according to the Daily Express.

The 28-year-old has proven himself to be a top class talent with some fine performances in recent years, impressing both in Serie A and for his national side.

It looks as though Romero will now move to United as a replacement for Victor Valdes as backup goalkeeper, with the Daily Mirror reporting earlier this week that the former Barcelona shot-stopper is set to quit the club.

The Express claims that this move is close, which certainly has implications over Valdes’ future in Manchester, though the future of number one ‘keeper David de Gea still up in the air, with BBC Sport stating that the 24-year-old is looking unlikely to leave United unless Sergio Ramos ends up joining as part of the deal.

United have been busy this summer, making four signings so far in the form of Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, and it could be that Louis van Gaal will make Romero his fifth addition to the squad.
