United ready to bid £17m for Reds target.

Manchester United are reportedly ‘closing in’ on the signing of Barcelona winger Pedro, even if there has been a slight delay in negotiations, according to a report in The Sun.

Supposedly, a move is close for the Spanish international, even if United are still to agree a fee with Barca for the player, who has an asking price of £21m, while the Red Devils are only currently willing to pay £17m.

According to another report in the Daily Star, the 27-year-old has told friends he is joining United this summer, despite rumours of interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea as well.

With the Daily Mirror claiming that Paris Saint-Germain are increasingly confident of signing Angel Di Maria from United in this transfer window, it makes sense that the Premier League giants are looking for another experienced and proven winger to come in as a replacement.

Pedro has spent his entire career so far at the Nou Camp, scoring 98 goals in 318 appearances in all competitions, and winning a whole host of major honours, including five La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

The pacey wide-man has also been a key performer for his country, netting 16 goals in 51 Spain caps and forming part of the squads for wins at the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championships, showing he could surely have something to offer this United side even if he has fallen out of favour as a regular starter for Barcelona in recent times.

For all his quality, Pedro has been unfortunate to find himself behind the likes of Neymar and Luis Suarez in the pecking order to partner Lionel Messi in the last couple of years, though he’s surely be a regular at most other top clubs in Europe, with The Sun claiming he is fed up of being on the bench at his current club.
