Ashley Cole, former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back, has had the final year of his contract with AS Roma terminated after failing to impress Rudi Garcia, the Serie A outfit’s manager, last season.
The Guardian report that Roma confirmed to the British newspaper that Cole will not see out the final 12 months of his deal at the Stadio Olimpico.
Cole made just 11 appearances last season, and with Garcia said to be closing in on the signature of Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Digne, he would only have fallen further down the pecking order.
The Premier League legend is therefore now a free agent following just one underwhelming year in Italy.
Speculation has now quickly turned to where the ex-England international could play next, and there are plenty of Premier League supporters hoping to see their club lure him back to the EPL.
