Tottenham poised to rival Chelsea for £40m-rated Ligue 1 starlet

Tottenham are set to battle London rivals Chelsea for the signing of talented AS Monaco youngster Anthony Martial, talkSPORT reports.

The 19-year-old, who signed a new deal with the Ligue 1 giants earlier in the summer, reportedly has a huge £40million price-tag on his head, however according to Spanish publication AS, the North London outfit are prepared to table a bid in hopes of luring the player to White Hart Lane before the transfer window closes next month.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is on the market to bolster his attacking options in a bid to help ease the pressure on star striker Harry Kane and has already confirmed the signing of Clinton N’Jie, who joined from Olympique Lyonnais last week.

However, the club face strong competition for Martial’s signature from the Blues and media reports suggest Jose Mourinho has launched a stunning £39million bid for the youngster.

It remains to be seen whether that offer is accepted by Monaco, but the Premier League duo have been boosted by the news that French club could be forced into selling the highly-rated youngster should they fail to qualify for the group stages of this season’s UEFA Champions League.
