Tottenham transfer news: Spurs submit last ditch £25m offer to sign star Belgium midfielder

Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Axel Witsel has emerged as a late summer transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.

This isn’t the first time that the Belgium international has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Manchester United having long been admirers of the winger, and the pair were rumoured to be preparing offers for his signature over the past few months.

However, neither of the English giants have opted to cement their interest with a bid, and reports had claimed that AC Milan were the new favourites, with it being said just three weeks ago that the Serie A outfit were closing in on a €25m deal.

But it now seems that Milan are hesitating in parting with the cash, and Spurs could be ready to pounce.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Tottenham have made a £25m offer with add ons for Witsel, as they look to finalise a deal quickly before the close of the window on Tuesday evening.

Tottenham’s form in front of goal has been a concern so far this season, with just four goals scored in as many games and star striker Harry Kane yet to get off the mark.

Mauricio Pochettino, therefore, may be looking to add spark to his front line in Witsel, while West Bromwich Albion forward Sadio Berahino is still being linked with a move to White Hart Lane.
