Manchester United agree deal to sell David De Gea to Real Madrid; transfer to be confirmed in coming hours

Manchester United and Real Madrid have agreed terms on a deal that will see long-term Bernabeu target David De Gea move to the Spanish capital according to the Marca.

The Spanish source claim that the stopper will become a Merengues player ‘in the coming hours’.

The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for Louis van Gaal’s side thus far this term and replacement keeper Sergio Romero has had an up-and-down time of it between the sticks.

Despite impressing and keeping clean sheets against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, the Argentine stopper could have done better on Sunday as the Red Devils were defeated 2-1 by Swansea City.

David De Gea initially struggled following his 2011 move to Old Trafford but has matured into one of the world’s best and has arguably been Man United’s most consistent performer over the past two, difficult, seasons following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement from the game.

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has seen his side complete back-to-back clean sheets in their opening two La Liga fixtures but seemingly still feels the need to bring in De Gea, and the Marca states that current keeper Keylor Navas could move to Man United.

David De Gea has made 175 appearances for Man United and has succeeded Iker Casillas as Spain’s first choice custodian.
