Manchester United launch massive €100m bid for world-class attacker as van Gaal’s side struggle for goals

Manchester United have launched a world-record transfer bid for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, according to respected Italian reporter Tancredi Palmeri.

26-year-old Welsh international Bale has proven a success since leaving Tottenham for the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013 and has started the current campaign well, netting a brace during his side’s 5-0 win over Real Betis.

In his first season in the Spanish capital, the cultured winger scored 22 goals, including efforts in both the Copa del Rey and Champions League finals, but things didn’t go quite so well for the Cardiff-born attacker in 2014/15, a season that saw Real Madrid lose their crowns and ultimately led to Carlo Ancelotti being sacked.

Louis van Gaal has seen his Man United side score just three goals in their opening four league fixtures, and the Dutch manager’s Old Trafford side certainly lack a cutting edge up front. Gareth Bale is a player capable of regularly finding the back of the net as well as being able to weigh in with his fair share of assists.

Man United have been linked with a raft of big-name attackers in recent weeks with Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller (Bild via the Independent) and Barcelona star Neymar (via Daily Mail) regularly linked, and some reports suggest that the Premier League side are closing in on a deal to sign AS Monaco teenager Anthony Martial (via BBC Sport).
