Red Devils snatch midfielder on the cheap.

Manchester United may only have spent around £6.5m on signing Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich this summer, according to claims made by his old club.

The 31-year-old spent his entire senior club career with Bayern, but had a spell in the youth teams of TSV 1860 Rosenheim, who insist his transfer fee was not as high as has been reported, according to the Manchester Evening News.

“The transfer fee adds up to 9 million euros (£6.5m),” the club said on their official website.

This looks a potential bargain for United for such an experienced player with so much quality, though some will argue the German international’s poor level of fitness so far since moving to Old Trafford suggests he may be past his peak.
