Manchester United aiming to sign Real Madrid transfer target in January

Manchester United are aiming to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus in January, reports Fichajes [via the Metro].

Real Madrid are apparently in the lead for the 26-year-old’s signature, but the Red Devils still have hope of beating them to the Germany international. United tried to sign several high-profile players in the summer, such as Sergio Ramos [Cadena Cope via Daily Star] and Thomas Muller [Bild via Manchester Evening News], but failed to bring them to Old Trafford.

However, this hasn’t put them off trying to bring Reus to the Premier League.

During an injury-hit campaign last time round, Reus scored seven and assisted five in 20 Bundesliga games. When fully fit, he has proven he can vastly improve on those stats, netting 16 times and assisting 13 in 30 league games in the 2013-14 season.

However, buying yet another forward may not be the wisest move from United boss Louis van Gaal, with plenty of options in the area already at the club. Currently, Ashley Young, Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, and Wayne Rooney are all competing for the forward positions, although one could certainly argue that Reus offers more quality than the majority of that aforementioned list.
