Louis van Gaal WILL be sacked if Man United miss out on top three

Manchester United are reportedly ready to wield the axe on manager Louis van Gaal if he cannot guide them back into the Champions League next season, according to the Daily Express.

The Dutchman saw his side crash out of the tournament this week with a 3-2 defeat to German giants Wolfsburg, and will now be forced to take part in the Europa League when European competition picks back up in February.

United are currently sat in fourth place in the table, three points behind leaders Leicester City, meaning his position at Old Trafford is safe for now.

The Express reports that just last week United officials highlighted their happiness at van Gaal’s current level of performance, and wouldn’t rule out extending his deal beyond 2017.

The same sources also claimed that the Premier League was the club’s top priority, and the board would overlook his shortcomings in Europe providing he can generate success domestically.

However, The Glazer Family are aware of the current fan unrest, and the manager may not see out the remainder of his deal if he fails to produce results in the league.
