Everton secured all three points at St James’ Park on Saturday evening thanks to a last gasp winner from midfielder Tom Cleverley.
The former Manchester United star found the back of the net with a late header that silenced the home faithful, with Steve McClaren’s side left heartbroken after fighting their way back into the contest.
After Everton had bossed the first half and outplayed their rivals, it appeared as though they would be left to rue their inability to make the most of their pressure.
However, despite an heroic effort from Magpies goalkeeper Rob Elliot, the visitors were able to find a winner at the death which in turn lifts them up to ninth in the Premier League table with 26 points from their 18 games so far this season.
It was a first win in four games for Roberto Martinez’s side in the league, and the Spaniard will be delighted with the way his side bounced back from their loss to Leicester City last time out.
As for Newcastle, they remain in the relegation zone level on points with Norwich City who had lost earlier in the day to Tottenham Hotspur, while Sunderland and Aston Villa make up the bottom three after both failed to win on Saturday.
