Man United legend hailed on Twitter for getting arch-enemy Rafa Benitez fired

Legendary Manchester United back Gary Neville may be off to a slow start as manager of Valencia, but one of his finest coaching jobs to date was a 2-2 draw against Real Madrid – and the consequences of that draw are earning Neville significant praise from the Old Trafford faithful.

It has been reported that Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez – once a considerable thorn in the sides of Man United when he was manager for Liverpool and Chelsea – has been fired by the club after being held to a draw. As a result, Man United fans quickly went to Twitter to thank Neville for his role in getting their former nemesis sacked.

Benitez was hired to replace Carlo Ancelotti back in June, but won fewer than 70% of his matches in a seven-month span, the lowest win rate of any Real Madrid manager since Juande Ramos from 2008 to 2009.

Despite leading Real Madrid to the Round of 16 in the Champions League, the club’s devastating 4-0 loss to Barcelona in El Clasico earlier in the season still infuriated many at the highest levels of the organization, who ultimately decided to part ways with Benitez and replace him with Zinedine Zidane.
