Manchester United face Chelsea competition for Premier League attacker; Euro giants also keen on wantaway frontman

Manchester United may have to see off competition from both Bayern Munich and Chelsea if they are to sign Southampton forward Sadio Mane.

The Red Devils have been increasingly linked with a move for the Saints attacker in recent weeks, but the Mirror note that the heavyweight duo of Bayern and the Blues are now also keen on the player, and may look to rival any move United make.

According to the tabloid, the player himself has edged the situation closer to a January transfer by revealing to his current employers that he won’t be willing to sign a new contract at St. Mary’s, a conviction that may see the club seek to offload him sooner rather than later.

The Mirror note that Mane’s contract ends in 2018, and while that doesn’t necessarily mean Saints must offload him this January—the club have insisted that’s not on the cards [Mirror]—the risk of missing out on a fee for the player increases the longer the south-coast club leave it.
