Liverpool secured a 3-3 draw with Arsenal at Anfield on Wednesday night, but needed a late equaliser from substitute Joe Allen to save them.

Roberto Firmino’s first-half brace had twice given the Reds the lead, but goals from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud pegged them back on both occasions to ensure that the two sides went into the interval on level terms.

However, it didn’t take long for a fifth goal of the game to arrive, with Giroud producing a bit of magic to give the Gunners their first lead, and it appeared as though the Premier League leaders were set to pick up all three points.

Allen had other ideas though, as Christian Benteke rose highest to meet Alberto Moreno free-kick, with the Welsh midfielder the first to react with his first meaningful touch of the game to find the back of the net from 10 yards out.

A draw was arguably a fair result given the chances that both sides had during the contest, and on that basis both managers will likely be pleased to have avoided coming away empty-handed.

Nevertheless, it will be a frustrating night for Arsenal with title rivals Manchester City being held to a goalless draw by Everton, while Leicester City picked up a dramatic late win at Tottenham to move level at the top of the table with Arsene Wenger’s side.
