Arsenal & Chelsea target makes transfer u-turn as club prepared to make record bid

Alexandre Lacazette could be coming to the Premier League in January after all, as Newcastle United prepare to make a club-record bid for the player.

To date, the Magpies’ greatest outlay was the £17 million spent to bring Michael Owen to St James’ Park from Real Madrid in 2005.

However, the north-east heavyweights are understood to be willing to smash that fee, and offer over £21 million to sign Olympique Lyonnais forward Lacazette [Telegraph].

The French international—who has also been linked to Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Tottenham Hotspur—had previously intimated that he would not consider a move away from Ligue 1 during the January window, particularly as he keeps an eye on participation at the European Championships with France next summer.

However, both player and club may well struggle to refuse the kind of money Newcastle are understood to offering as they seek to fend off relegation.
