Video: Liverpool’s Coutinho ghosts past Man United midfielders with beautiful run

Philippe Coutinho has been excellent against Manchester United this Thursday night, picking Louis van Gaal’s side apart with his quick and skilful feet. He already dealt the Red Devils a massive blow with his superb goal right before half time, and looks capable of doing more damage if this phenomenal run is anything to go by.

The Brazilian picked the ball up in midfield after Marouane Fellaini was dispossessed, and what followed was a moment of real class. The 23-year-old ghosted past several Manchester United players as if they weren’t even there, with the odd step-over thrown in for good measure. He unselfishly spread the play out wide to Daniel Sturridge, but unfortunately the mazy run didn’t get the goal it probably deserved.

Check out his run below:

His goal in the first half was a real hammer blow for United, as the away goal gave them a huge amount of work to do. They already needed three goals to progress in the competition after a 2-0 first leg loss, but despite Anthony Martial converting from the spot early in the first half, Coutinho’s goal meant they needed a further three goals to progress.

Coutinho is certainly capable of great things, but Liverpool fans will be hoping he can do it on a bit more of a consistent basis. He’s a top quality player, and if he starts to produce regularly then he could really help drive Jurgen Klopp’s side forward.

Liverpool have really started to improve under the German manager after a mixed start to his Premier League career, and Coutinho is likely to prove key to any success they are going to have in the future.
