Chelsea eye Italy superstar as new starting centre-back

As long as John Terry and Kurt Zouma remain out of the picture at Stamford Bridge for the start of the 2016-17 season, replacement names will continue to appear. However, the most recent name to come across the wire for Chelsea seems to be a fairly strong choice – or at least a suitable one for Antonio Conte.

According to Sky Sports, Inter Milan centre-back Andrea Ranocchia is being lined up for a move to Chelsea this summer in an effort to rebuild the backfield. Ranocchia is currently on loan to Sampdoria but his contract expires at the end of the season.  The 28-year-old back has been previously linked with a move to Liverpool.

John Terry is scheduled to leave Chelsea at the end of the season after failing to reach a new contract with the team. Meanwhile, the team has been without Kurt Zouma for weeks after he suffered a devastating leg injury that is expected to sideline him for the bulk of 2016.
