£20m Arsenal target close to deal after transfer saga

Even though Granit Xhaka has previously denied being a part of any transfer that would send him to Arsenal, his objections don’t seem to have stopped the Gunners and Borussia M’gladbach from moving forward with a deal.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have increase their interest in the Swiss midfielder and are prepared to offer the German giants £20 million for him. However, the Germans are believed to want closer to £30 million in exchange for his services.

Several weeks ago, Xhaka publicly rubbished any talk of a transfer deal sending him to England, calling the the rumours ‘nonesense’ and denying having any talks with Arsene Wenger.

‘I’ve seen the rumours. All I can say is it’s nonsense,’ Xhaka said at the time. ‘There have been no negotiations with Arsene Wenger. Nothing has been agreed.’

Xhaka has been a consistent presence in the midfield for Borussia M’gladbach since signing a five-year deal with the club back in 2012. In four seasons with the club he has 102 Bundesliga starts and six goals. He made his first-ever Champions League appearance this past season in the group stage against Manchester City.
