Manchester United ready to sell Memphis Depay in order to land Premier League star

Manchester United are reportedly willing to offload Memphis Depay after just one season at Old Trafford in a bid to sign Sadio Mane.

The Dutch international has experienced a generally miserable first campaign in England, scoring just two goals in 26 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Given that he arrived in a £25million move from PSV last summer, he has ultimately failed to live up to expectations under Louis van Gaal and that has in turn raised questions about his future.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman remains a big admirer of his fellow Dutchman though, and according to The Daily Star, a deal could be reached between the two Premier League clubs given United’s previous interest in Mane.

United saw their advances for the Senegalese winger rejected by the Saints last summer, and after struggling for form this year, Mane has recently proven why they were interested in him with four goals in his last five games.

In turn, it would come as no surprise if the Red Devils reignited their interest in the 24-year-old, with Depay failing to have the desired impact and therefore risking being cut ahead of what could be a crucial summer for United.

With changes mooted at managerial level and coupled with the likelihood that the club will strengthen the squad significantly in order to get back to competing for the Premier League and in Europe, patience and time is running out for Depay to prove his worth.

While it is arguably a little harsh to assess the former PSV star on one sole season in England, it appears as though United could press ahead with their bid to sign Mane, and that in turn would see them sacrifice the pacy Dutch star.
