Real Madrid deal Man United major transfer blow

Manchester United have reportedly been looking at the possibility of signing James Rodriguez this summer, but Real Madrid have essentially knocked that on the head by insisting that the Colombian won’t be sold, according to Spanish publication Marca.

Rodriguez was one of the most expensive signings in the game when he first arrived at Madrid, and off the back of a phenomenal World Cup in Brazil he looked set for big things. He hasn’t reached the heights that were expected of him though, and has actually struggled for game time at the Santiago Bernabeu recently.

There haven’t been any signs that the 24-year-old will enjoy more success under Zinedine Zidane either, yet Madrid still don’t seem to want to cash in on the struggling midfielder.

Even if Madrid were looking to change their tune and decide to sell, United would have plenty of competition for his signature. The report suggests that Juventus, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are all keeping a close eye on the situation, but after holding talks regarding his future Rodriguez and Madrid seem happy with the way things are going.

The player is apparently content to stay in the Spanish capital and fight for his place, which means Manchester United will have to look elsewhere for this summer’s marquee signing.

This may be a good thing for United in all honesty, as their last big money acquisition from Madrid didn’t exactly work out. Angel Di Maria became their record signing back in 2014, but he really failed to impress during his single season at the club. He was consequently shipped out to PSG for a loss, with Man United struggling in the league once again.

Rodriguez’s recent poor form could definitely see him go the same way as Di Maria at Old Trafford, with more money spent needlessly with little to no progress made.
