Jose Mourinho told Louis van Gaal that Man United were firing him WAY before the team did

The man who first told Louis van Gaal that his time at Manchester United was the same man who might be taking his place at Old Trafford next season.

According to the Express via the Mirror, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho contacted Louis van Gaal weeks ago to inform the Dutch boss that he was being sounded out by the club as a potential replacement manager. It was long believed that Van Gaal would be fired regardless of the team’s performance in the FA Cup after Man United failed to secure a berth in the Champions League.

Van Gaal was fired on Monday after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Mourinho is expected to be named the new permanent manager. He has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in mid-December. The “Special One” led the Blues to League Cup and Premier League titles in the 2014-15 season.
