Arsenal transfer news: Key duo to be rewarded with new contracts as Gunners look to ward off Barcelona and Man City

Arsenal pair Hector Bellerin and Alex Iwobi are reportedly set to be offered new contracts by the club to reward them for their impressive form.

Further, it’s claimed by Goal, that the new deals will also be a way to deter both Barcelona and Manchester City from making moves for Bellerin, having been paired with an interest.

Both Iwobi and Bellerin have grown into regular roles in Arsene Wenger’s side, with the latter establishing himself as one of the best right-backs in Europe while Iwobi has impressed with his versatility and attacking play for the Gunners.

According to Goal, their improvement and their potential to be even better moving forward has convinced Wenger that they deserve to be rewarded, even though Iwobi only signed improved terms just six months ago.

The report goes on to discuss the fact that Bellerin has attracted interest from former club Barcelona in recent months, and although he currently has a deal that runs for another three years, it’s clear that Arsenal aren’t willing to take any risks when it comes to his future and want to tie him down to a new deal as soon as possible.

Man City have also been linked with a move as Pep Guardiola knows his compatriot from their time at Barcelona, although it would come as no surprise if Arsenal were to reject any interest from a direct rival in the Premier League.

Bellerin made 36 league appearances last season after forcing Mathieu Debuchy to accept a back-up role, while he has featured in all seven games so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, Iwobi scored two goals in 21 appearances in all competitions last season, and has already made seven outings this year as he continues to force his way to the front of the queue and establish himself in the starting line-up.
