Arsenal are not going to let Manchester United be linked with their star players for long without wanting their own back on their old rivals it seems.
No sooner had Manchester United been linked with Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, whose contract situation is becoming more and more of an issue for the Gunners, than Arsene Wenger’s side are being reported in the Sun as wanting to steal United’s young attacker Jesse Lingard in return.
Both player have contracts which expire at the end of next season, meaning the next 6 months is a crucial period. Arsenal are debating how to manage the enormous new contract that Ozil apparently wants with the desires of their other star player Alexis Sanchez, who also needs a new deal. United meanwhile need to prevent their wages spiralling out of control after signing Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer.
Is Lingard does feel sidelined and underappreciated at Old Trafford he would be a great signing for Arsene Wenger. But is he capable of replacing Mesut Ozil? Even given Lingard is 5 years younger tan the German, not many Arsenal fans would agree to that trade.
