New York City FC star David Villa was sent off during a friendly against Houston Dynamo last night thanks to the use of video technology, report The Sun.
As The Sun report, Villa was initially shown a yellow card for punching an opponent. However, the referee opted to request a review of the incident, and then decided that it in fact warranted a red.
In this case, the use of video technology prevented Villa from escaping without due punishment. Is this a glimpse of the future of football?
Villa red card for hitting DeLaGarza in the face. Harsh because the ref didn’t see it and had to use VAR. #NoVAR #NYCFC #NYCvHOU #MLS pic.twitter.com/UkZPDo6u0Z
