Many high-profile deals appear to be close to resolution and, according to the source below, Arsene Wenger is about to get a nice chunk of cash for a wantaway star!
Alex Hleb will be unveiled by Barcelona today after completing his £15million switch from Arsenal.
The Catalan giants will pay the Gunners £12.5m up front for Hleb — with the remaining £2.5m based on appearances and trophies.
Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Real Madrid were also interested in the Belarus midfield man.
But Hleb, 27, agreed a four-year contract with Barca.
The deal is worth around £65,000 a week — almost double his Arsenal salary.
The Gunners signed Hleb from Stuttgart three years ago for £10m.
It’s a deal that has been weeks in the making, and the Gunners boss appears to have made the right decision. Wenger knows there is no point in keeping players at the club that display a desire to move on. The Frenchman is also wise to not buckle under the constant pressure to offer substantial wage increases. Hleb went off the boil about a third of the way into last season, and comments he has made (albeit some misquoted) made his departure inevitable. What should Arsenal do with the cash from the Belarussian’s sale?
