Tottenham Boss Andre Villas-Boas Hopes ‘Spectacular’ Gareth Bale Wins PFA Award

AVB believes Bale has a great chance of being crowned player of the year.Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has hailed Gareth Bale for his ‘spectacular’ contribution to Spurs’ season, and says he would be delighted to see him win PFA Player of the Year.

It was revealed yesterday that the Welsh winger was nominated along with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, Manchester United duo Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick, and Juan Mata and Eden Hazard of Chelsea.

Bale won the award two years ago, and has scored 17 goals in the league this season, many of them being fine individual efforts that have helped Spurs keep in touch with Arsenal and Chelsea for a place in the top four.

The 23-year-old is currently out injured, which has hurt Tottenham’s recent form, but his manager still recognises the quality Bale has brought to his side this season.

“Gareth has had an outstanding year,” the Portuguese coach told the Daily Mail.

“I think he’s in with a big, big chance (of winning) for what he has produced this season. We’ve seen some spectacular moments.

“It certainly has been a great, great season for Bale so I think he is a serious contender and all of us would be very happy if he was to win.”

In the end it is likely to come down to three candidates – Bale, Suarez and van Persie, so a lot will depend on how the former Southampton man can impact Spurs’ fortunes when he returns from injury.

Bale has also been placed among the nominees for the Young Player of the Year award, along with Christian Benteke, Romelu Lukaku, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck.
