Napoli have made an ambitious attempt to sign Tottenham manager Andre Vilas-Boas according to The Daily Mail.

The Italian giants are currently looking for a new manager after previous boss Walter Mazzarri announced he would be leaving the club after four years in charge.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly identified AVB as his number one target to succeed Mazzarri and confirmed he had made an approach to Tottenham for his services.

The Italian club have been linked with a host of top names since Mazzarri’ announcement including the likes of Rafa Benitez, Roberto Di Matteo, Jurgen Klopp and Laurent Blanc.

But it would remain a surprise were Vilas-Boas to leave Tottenham for the Serie A side.

Spurs seem willing to back AVB in the transfer market this summer, as well as hold on to Welsh winger Gareth Bale, as they look to build a team capable of mixing it with the best in the Premier League.

Napoli have the advantage that they can offer AVB Champions League football but it is thought that Tottenham are desperate to hold on to the Portuguese boss.

Napoli’s team is unlikely to hold together for much longer with striker Edinson Cavani and Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik expected to leave the club in the coming months.
