Defender Johnny Heitinga has hinted that he could still stay at Everton as a new manager will be arriving soon.
The Dutchman had been expected to leave the Toffees during the summer after he lost his place in the team under David Moyes.
Now it seems that Heitinga could stay at Everton and fight for his place under a new manager.
Sky Sports reports that Heitinga told the Liverpool Echo of his intentions for pre-season.
“For the moment I will come to Liverpool for the start of pre-season”.
“That’s no punishment. We will get a new manager this summer. I don’t know his vision on the game. Maybe he says, ‘John must stay’. I also don’t know what the chairman wants”.
Roberto Martinez is favourite to take over from David Moyes at Goodison Park.
Martinez has already revealed his intention to leave his post at Wigan Athletic and reports have suggested that he has already met with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright.
Former Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick is also rumoured to be in the running for the Everton job.
